Meet the team
Our team is here to provide loving and affirming fellowship to people exploring the intersection of their queer identity and spirituality.

Piper helps create content for the Refuge Faith TikTok and is Lead Moderator of our Discord server. Fresh out of a Minneapolis megachurch where they worked for six years, and having graduated both Actors, Models and Talent for Christ and Disciple Internship, Piper’s theology and resulting content now pulls from a deep well of experience, intent on showing others in the LGBTQ community just how loved they truly are, and that they are not alone in their hurt.
Brenden grew up in fundamentalist Christian evangelicalism and spent most of his adult life in one form of religious ministry or another. From youth pastor to missionary to filmmaker to camp counselor, Brenden has worn a lot of hats throughout the course of his life, and in 2017 he added one more when he came out as gay, left ministry and started a new journey. Brenden currently works as a therapist. When he’s not working you’ll find him in a cafe reading a book, watching endless videos of dogs on TikTok, or talking about Star Wars.
Gaines is Director of Refuge Faith Community and co-host of Refuge Radio. He believes strongly in the power of story and its ability to bring people together. Experiencing hurt from so many faith spaces, Gaines strives to make Refuge a place of safety, community, and a place to elevate the voices of those who feel like they’ve never been able to express themselves safely - a loved child of the Divine, complete in all their queerness. Gaines can usually be found at the local coffee shop in Bristol, Pennsylvania, with an iced coffee in hand.
